PULSE Art Fair: Shimon Okshteyen

A particularly interesting exhibit at the PULSE Art Fair was Brooklyn artist Shimon's Okshteyn, for his creative presentation of his eclectic series Girls.  Snapshots of young women in Brooklyn streets became traditional grayscale portraits mounted on a colorful mirror panels.

For a cinematographic effect, each girl received a Gloria Swanson inspired iconic beauty mark. On a distinctive note, each piece is accompanied by it's own unique palette,  created in the process of each portrait. The palettes with incidental paint marks add to the artist's ongoing investigation of the ontological qualities of the image.
